The information concerning the dimples in the front fascia is not correct. The OEM license plate bracket mounts to the top inside portion of the grill opening with two horizontal arms. Two vertical arms extend in front of the front fascia. The plate mounts to these arms. The dimples seen in the fascia of some Miatas is caused when the plate is inadvertently pushed back against the fascia. The dimples are a result of the nuts or screws holding the plate to the bracket being pushed into the fascia. I was not happy with the appearance of the plate hanging in front of the car. I found small suction cups that fit in the four holes in the plate. Using the suction cups, the plate sticks to the windshield, inside the car in the lower right side of the windshield, just above where the wiper blade rests. I've never had a problem except when I got a ticket for speeding :-). Since I was already getting one ticket, the plate location was ignored. There are a few after-market brackets that are a better solution than OEM. The first link is for an OEM bracket. Actually, I believe I still have the OEM bracket for my NA and also a fold-away, after-market bracket. The next three are for after-market brackets.
