Serving Miata Owners in the Delaware Valley Region
Any suggestions as to manufacturer would be recommended.
Personally I am not a fan of out door car covers.
Sometimes they do more harm then good.
Cars are designed to be outside.
If you're concerned about protecting the soft top, I'd get a cover for the top only.
If it's the whole car, get a cover specifically designed for outdoor use on a car.
They should be water repellent not necessarily water proof.
You want a cover that will breathe and allow air to circulate under the cover and will also have a soft underside so as not to scratch the paint when it moves as it's blown around by the wind. You also want to make sure the cover won't fly off the car in the wind. One of the companies I remember was California Car Covers. Have no idea if they are still around or not. They made out door use covers with a fiber they called something like Technilon or something like that. They were designed specifically for outdoor use.
Admittedly, there are two schools of thought: to cover or not to cover. I prefer to cover. I would suggest a custom fit cover. There's less chance of the cover rubbing against the car due to wind, rain or snow.
Here's some links to fabric charts and guides.
Here's two other sites. I went with Covercraft covers for both the '04 Miata and the '02 Impreza. I believe I got them from Big Sky.
